Opened in 1958, Ravenswood High School was a school in the Sequoia Union High School District that served the students of East Palo Alto. Due to white flight and redlining practices in the 1960s, the demographics of the student population quickly shifted and led to concerns about de facto segregation and the quality of education compared to other schools in the school district's more affluent (and white) areas. The school closed in 1976 following a bussing program, a student sit-in, and experimentation with a magnet program. Ravenswood High School has an active alumni group and many long-time EPA residents have fond memories of their time at Ravenswood High School.
